Terralite, a type of earthenware and ceramic ware treated with coloured oil varnish, was initially produced in the style of the wares of Josiah Wedgwood’s Etruria Works in England. This simplified unglazed technique was far less expensive, and the company enjoyed considerable success by copying Classical forms and shapes. It first produced a product called “siderolite” (loess) in 1836, which went on to become a northern Bohemian speciality.
